LJMU Bursary
What are LJMU bursaries?
Bursaries are a bit like grants – they are means tested and you don’t have to pay them back. You can use the money for whatever you wish; they are intended to help you with the cost of being a student.
How will I know if I am eligible?
LJMU bursaries are paid automatically to eligible students – you do not need to apply for them. However, you must meet our specified criteria which are:-
- Residency – only home students; EU or international students are not eligile for the LJMU bursary.
- Your tuition fees. To be considered for a bursary in 2012-2013 academic year you have to be paying the new variable tuition fee of £9,000.
- You must have made arrangements to pay your fees, either by loan, yourself, your parents or another sponsor and adhered to the arrangements.
- Students studying for an Equivalent or lower Qualification (ELQ) are not eligible for an LJMU bursary.
- Bursaries are normally non-repayable.
- You must be enrolled and attending your course and you will be asked to confirm your attendance at various times throughout the year.
What bursaries are available in 2012-2013
If you are in your first year in higher education in 2012-2013 and your household income is £25,000 or less per year you will qualify for a bursary of £500 for each year of your course.
You are not eligible for a bursary, if you are:
- studying an NHS programme (because your fees are paid)
- you are studying for an Equivalent Level Qualification (ELQ)
- or you are on sandwich year or year abroad.
Will I get an LJMU bursary if I’ve been selected to receive a National Scholarship Programme award?
If you receive a National Scholarship Programme award you will not be eligible to receive an LJMU bursary for the first year of your course. Providing you meet the above eligibility criteria you will be able to receive an LJMU bursary for the subsequent years of your course.
