Honorary Fellowship - Lance Corporal Alan Redford
16 July 2012
Lance Corporal Alan Redford received an Honorary Fellowship from Liverpool John Moores University on Friday 13 July 2012 for his outstanding bravery and service to the people of the UK. The citation was presented by LJMU Honorary Fellow Lynette Beardwood.
In 2011, Lance Corporal Alan Redford was awarded the Military Cross by the Queen for his bravery and repeated acts of courage in Afghanistan. Born in Birkenhead, and a father of three, he received this leading Army honour after he twice saved Allied lives while on tour as part of the 1st Battalion, the Mercian Regiment, who are based at Catterick Garrison, North Yorkshire. Lance Corporal Redford MC had previously toured Iraq, Northern Ireland and the Falklands during his time in the Army.
Lance Corporal Alan Redford commented on the Fellowship:
“I am amazed to receive an Honorary Fellowship from Liverpool John Moores University. I thought that only lords and professors got something like this, so I am really proud. It is great to feel that a University really cares about individuals and people like me who didn’t go through a formal education route. When I talk to young people, I always work on inspiring them to do something positive with their lives and I can see that LJMU is on the same mission.”
