The Board of Governors and Senior Management take pride in Liverpool John Moores University’s long-standing reputation as a caring and responsible employer; evidenced by being the first University ever to achieve Investors in People Work Life Balance recognition and by scoring at a consistently high level in the leadership and people related criteria of the EFQM Excellence Model in recent Award assessments (2008, 2009 and 2010).
The University seeks to work in partnership with the many people employed at LJMU. This is achieved formally through very strong relations with the recognised Trade Unions and well-defined policies and procedures with fairness at their core that set out the rights and responsibilities of every employee. Less formally, the University promotes an extensive range of employee benefits which are summarised in the Staff Benefits booklet and encourages all employees to be actively involved in local and university-wide improvement initiatives.
The University’s Equal Opportunities Policy is supported by a strong commitment of the Board of Governors and Senior Management to maintaining and promoting an environment where everyone is treated equally and with dignity and respect. LJMU operates a policy of zero tolerance towards any form of discrimination and works towards equality, human rights and social justice. LJMU features in the 2010 Stonewall 100 list of Britain’s top employers for lesbian, gay and bisexual (LGB) staff. LJMU has recently been awarded the Migrant Workers Charter Certificate, during the assessment for which the more general Equal Opportunities Policies were commended by the judge as “Excellent Good Practice”.
